The recipe is very simple (and great for preschoolers - he could almost do it all by himself!)...here is what we used :
Baked Apple Treat
Four apples, cored and tops peeled (this is the only part I helped with ;)
dried cranberries (recipe called for raisins, but cranberries is what we had on hand...turned out pretty tasty!)
brown sugar
cinnamon
nutmeg
chopped nuts (we didn't use)
apple juice or water
ice cream or heavy cream
First, you put some dried fruit into a small mixing bowl:
Next, you add some brown sugar...
(I'm guessing it ended up being right around a 1/2 cup...the amount probably doesn't matter too much!)
Then you shake in some cinnamon and nutmeg...
(I really didn't worry about measuring...maybe it was 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1/4 tsp of nutmeg?)
After that you stir...
...and stir...
...and stir (this was his favorite part!)...
Then spoon your mixture into the cored-and-tops-peeled apples...
...add a little juice or water around the bottom, and bake at 350F for 45 minutes or so.
He was surprised that they looked "weird" when they were done baking! But with a little cream poured over the top, and some yummy tea to wash it down, they were a hit with everyone (including Little Monkey!)
Yum is right! Great job, Little Monkey!
